Curriculum
The Certificate in International Higher Education will enable you to learn from leaders in the field through core courses and topical seminars. The program is approximately 230 hours and is divided into core courses, electives, seminars, a data analysis project, mentorship, and a practicum component. It also includes networking and relationship building with peers.
4 Core Modules (online, 8 months to complete)
- Foundations of the International Education Profession (15 hours)
- Global and Intercultural Communication (50 hours)
- Applied Quantitative Analysis in International Education (20 hours)
- Current Trends and Issues in International Education (50 hours)
Optional Electives
- Choose from a list of optional elective courses. You can complete as many electives as you wish to -- with lifetime access to the GlobalEd course catalog.
Mentorship
- You'll be assigned a dedicated mentor who will help with navigating the material, drawing together your learning, reflection, and career advancement (20 hours)
Seminar
- Complete one seminar from a list of available options. See upcoming seminars here. You can either attend live or view recordings. You can choose as many seminars as you wish to, but one is required. (5 hours)
Data Analysis Project (Month 9)
- Take what you have learned in the program and apply it to a data analysis project, which can be used for your current or next job. Ask cutting-edge questions by using either qualitative or quantitative (or mixed) methods. Additional training in these areas is available from the faculty. (30 hours)
Practicum (Month 10)
- Complete a virtual practicum (1 month) with our partner universities and organizations. We'll help place you at a partner and get set up, as well as implement reflections. You'll complete a pre-approved project for a university or organization - helping the institution come up with a solution to a problem. (40 hours)
Flexible
The program can be started and completed at anytime - there is no fixed entry date. This flexibility means you can complete the program at your own pace. The program is designed to be completed within 10 months with four core courses, a seminar, data analysis project, and practicum.
Experiential
The program features plenty of options for developing real-world leadership experience, including a one-month practicum and mentorship. As a student, you'll be assigned an experienced mentor who will guide you through the program. During the practicum, you'll help an institution or organization solve a problem or strategy.
Transformative
The program is designed to make you a transformative leader who grasps the current issues and challenges facing the field of international higher education. We build your knowledge in core areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, social justice, critical pedagogy, global and intercultural communication, virtual exchange, and more.
